In a world that sees people turning in their nails on a whim to get their hands on a coveted gift, it’s a very different experience for people.
Mental health experts are saying the nail art trend is damaging to the mental health of the general population.
There are so many different ways people can do manicures and nail art, it doesn’t make sense that one style is so popular and so widely shared, said psychiatrist Dr. Richard Hines.
The trend can also make people feel like they’re in a trance, he said.
It can make them feel like the whole world is watching them, he added.
“They’re in the middle of the night, or they’re trying to be creative and don’t really know how to go about it,” Dr. Hines said.
“It can lead to a lot of negative consequences.”
Dr. Hine said the trend is so out of control, the American Psychological Association is calling on the government to get involved to stop it.
Dr Hines is a psychiatrist and also teaches psychiatry and clinical psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.
He said it’s not the first time a trend like this has been around in recent years, and that many nail artists have taken to social media to share their thoughts.
“I think people are going through a lot right now.
It’s really scary,” he said, adding that he’s noticed that manicure trends have gone viral in recent months.
We’re seeing this now in America and Europe, and I don’t think it’s an isolated issue,” Dr Hines added.
